Lake Mead as viewed from US 93. Lake Mead is the 16th largest manmade lake in the world, one of the largest manmade lakes in the Western Hemisphere and home to many fun recreational activities.
 

The Alan Bible Visitor Center, built in 1966 has volunteers that can answer all your park questions and they have a wealth of knowledge about the park, it's history, and things to do.

See a full size relief map of the Lake Mead National Recreation Area. This map shows the park in amazing detail. There is an award winning park film, a bookstore that carries many educational and nature gift items, and a cactus garden.

Historic Railroad Trail - Lake Mead National Recreation

The Historic Railroad Trail is easily accessed either near the Alan Bible Visitor Center or via the Hoover Dam parking garage. It is an easy hike and has great panoramic views of Lake Mead, Boulder Basin, and Fortification Hill.

The gravel Historic Railroad Trail hugs the hills on the southern shoreline of vast Lake Mead. The rail-trail snakes through five railroad tunnels on its way toward Hoover Dam.

After the dam was completed in 1935, the railroad ceased operation, and in 1962 the tracks were removed; the trail opened in 1995.

Boulder Basin Las Vegas Boat Harbor has boat rentals, fuel, general store merchandise, restaurants or snack bars, dry storage and slip rentals. Cruises are available on a paddlewheeler to and from Hoover Dam with Lake Mead Cruises.

Lake Mead RV Village, located in the Lake Mead National Recreation Area offers magnificent views of beautiful Lake Mead and is an ideal base camp for the variety of recreational activities in the park. Recreational enthusiast's favorite activities include, boating, sailing, swimming, fishing and hiking.
